BEHF Architects onstage at
DC Tower 3

DC Tower 3, located directly on the waterfront, houses Austria’s largest apartment building “DISTRICT LIVING” on 33 floors with more than 22,800 m². Planning and construction is by Dietrich Untertrifaller Architekten, BEHF Architects was commissioned with the complete interior design – 832 one- and two-bedroom apartments and a variety of common areas such as the lobby, co-working spaces, a gym or the Sky Lounge on the 33rd floor. During an “on-stage seminar” held by Überbau, all those involved in the project reported on the challenges they had to meet. Thomas Ehrenfried , Head of Design, presented the architectural guiding principles.

The concept of the design is a game of opposites: private spaces create a calm and warm atmosphere while public areas are lively and colourful. Accommodations are equipped with a sanitary unit, a workplace and a kitchenette. The materiality is limited to three main elements: white concrete, wood and tiles. Curtains, carpets, lights and decoration create a cosy atmosphere. The projections of the three-dimensionally warped facade elements are transformed into wooden alcoves on the inside which serve as heated seat windows.

The lobby serves as a reception area and a bar at the same time. The front desk and bar counter are surrounded by seating areas. Eye-catcher is a 18 m long and 4.5 m high mural which extends over the entire letterbox wall. A sunken courtyard is a secret garden, outdoor bar and event space. On the 33rd floor the rooftop terrace with 360 degree views across Vienna is designed to resemble the deck of a ship.
